A VPN gives internet traffic from your computer or phone an encrypted path to the VPN server, adding protection for everyday work, banking, communication and travel.
Every time you use the internet, information travels between your computer or phone and systems somewhere else. The public internet and the networks underneath it are not the same thing as your own private office network. When you access work systems, banking, files or private communications, the connection may cross infrastructure you do not own and do not manage.
That is one of the main reasons companies commonly require remote employees to use VPN technology. Instead of trusting every home ISP, hotel network or temporary connection, they protect the connection across it.
